Discover Legend Seafood Restaurant

Walking into Legend Seafood Restaurant feels like stepping into a place that understands exactly why people in Honolulu take food seriously. Located at 100 N Beretania St #108, Honolulu, HI 96817, United States, this diner-style seafood spot has become a regular stop for locals who want generous portions, familiar flavors, and seafood that tastes like it actually came from the ocean that morning. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long workday downtown, and the experience has been consistently satisfying in ways that matter to real diners.

The menu leans heavily into comfort-driven seafood classics, but there’s clear technique behind the scenes. Fried fish plates arrive with a crisp exterior that never turns greasy, a sign that oil temperature and timing are handled correctly. According to food safety guidelines published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, maintaining oil between 350-375°F is essential for proper texture and safe cooking, and you can taste that precision here. Steamed clams, buttery shrimp, and seafood noodle dishes are prepared in batches, which keeps flavors fresh and prevents the overcooked rubberiness that plagues many casual seafood diners.

One thing that stands out is how the kitchen balances speed with quality. During a busy lunch rush, I once watched staff rotate orders with near assembly-line efficiency while still customizing spice levels and sides. That kind of process usually comes from experience rather than shortcuts. A friend of mine who worked in restaurant operations pointed out that this approach reduces waste and improves consistency, which lines up with research from the National Restaurant Association showing that streamlined prep systems can cut food waste by up to 20 percent.

Reviews from locals often highlight portion size, and that reputation is well earned. Plates are hearty enough to share, though most people don’t. I’ve seen first-time visitors underestimate the serving size and immediately ask for to-go boxes. Regulars know better and arrive hungry. The diner atmosphere supports that casual confidence; nobody rushes you out, and families, office workers, and students all seem equally at home.

There’s also a sense of trust that comes from transparency. Staff are quick to explain where certain seafood is sourced, especially seasonal items. While not every fish is locally caught, which is common even in island states, the restaurant acknowledges those limits openly. That honesty matters. The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program emphasizes that informed sourcing builds consumer trust, and places like this show how that works in real life without turning it into a lecture.

Flavor-wise, the sauces deserve special mention. House-made garlic butter and chili blends elevate otherwise simple dishes. I once asked how they keep the garlic from burning, and the cook explained they add it late in the process and control heat carefully. That small detail reflects practical kitchen knowledge you don’t get from recipes alone. It’s the kind of insight that separates a dependable neighborhood spot from a forgettable one.

Location also plays a role in the restaurant’s steady popularity. Being near downtown Honolulu means it attracts both residents and visitors exploring beyond tourist-heavy areas. Many online reviews mention discovering it accidentally and returning repeatedly, which mirrors my own experience. After my first visit, I told coworkers it was bold flavors, fair prices, and no nonsense, and several of them became regulars too.

There are limitations worth noting. Seating can feel tight during peak hours, and parking nearby isn’t always convenient. Still, most diners seem willing to work around those issues for food that delivers consistently. In a city with endless dining options, that reliability counts for a lot, and it explains why this seafood diner continues to earn loyalty from people who value substance over spectacle.

Reviews

  • The restaurant is pretty dated and the a/c seems pretty weak. The cart dimsum is quick and convenient. The tea is a bit too bitter and no chili oil on the tables.

  • Busy Saturday lunch period but we were seated right away. Carts come around and you request what you want from them. Fresh dim sum and desserts. Could also order dishes (for veggies bc they're not in the dim sum/carts). Quick service. Air conditioning could have been cooler. Water wasn't offered, we had to ask mid-meal Nice family atmosphere with the usual sounds of dishes and conversations. Would go again

  • Our go-to dim sum place. Great service and prices. They're constantly circling the floor with the carts, but be sure to ask for the dim sum menu because they only have the most popular items on them. Great dinner menu also! Quick service and huge family style portions.

  • Went searching for a good Dim Sum place in Oahu - wouldn't you know it, there's a TON of them, especially in Chinatown. This place didn't disappoint. food was quick to come out, service was excellent, and our measure of good Dim Sum is always how fall off the bone is the chicken feet, and how flavorful. if you perfect this very finicky dim sum dish, you know the rest is golden. RESULT: chicken feet is ON POINT.

  • Look no further for excellent dim sum and Chinese food! They're located in Chinatown at the corner of Beretania & Maunakea Streets. We always park in the garage of the Chinatown Cultural Plaza, and they do validate. ATMOSPHERE: Its your typical Chinese restaurant; big 10-seat tables and flexible 2-seaters, with the bling chandelier in the middle. When you enter, it sounds like a hen house lol! Big windows offer views of people walking along the river. We usually do dim sum, but you can also order off the main menu. FOOD: Steamed Look Funn Ahh, this is my favorite dish here. We usually order them with shrimp, and there are other stuffings available. The four, bright white burrito-shaped noodles were soft and doused with soy sauce that runs effortlessly off the silky smooth exterior. Chicken Feet A favorite of mine since I was a tyke. The four feet were super tender and done in a salt & pepper seasoning. I have yet to see my friends and spouse try this. It's not bad at all!? It's sort of like eating chicken skin with a little bit of cartilage. Highly recommended! Pork Hash Three good sized pieces came in the steamer, in yellow wrappers and tender pork filled to the brim. Choy Sum The bright green stalks & leaves were steamed perfect and drizzled with oyster sauce. Pan Fried Noodles Several toppings are available, and we went with boneless chicken. It's really deep fried crispy noodles topped with a mild gravy sauce and choi sum. Heavenly... Dumplings I'm not sure what they're called exactly, but the three huge dumplings were fully stuffed with savory ground pork, green onions, and peanuts. Very good. Pan Fried Noodle with Minute Chicken This was the dish I was wanting to try at LHF, so I was ecstatic to find it here. First off, it's a huge portion. The noodles are of the crispy variety that you find in Thai and Vietnamese restaurants, though I was hoping for cake noodles. Unfortunately, the noodle to chicken ratio was very lopsided at about 10:3. Way too much noodles, not enough chicken and choi sum toppings. The chicken strips were tender but lightly seasoned which was another disappointment. The sauce was also very subtle in the flavor department and didn't give this dish any life. Bland dish... Pass. Custard Tart If you love custard, you'll absolutely ADORE these. The eggy filling marries so well with the flaky crust. Holy geezuz. Get the large with four pieces!!!! SERVICE: Its gotten better over the years, not as forceful or pushy. Some of the servers accents are so heavy, its difficult to understand what you're ordering sometimes. OVERALL: Excellent Chinese food!

  • We actually ordered more dimsum dishes today. Too busy to eat. Forgot about taking pictures This restaurant is always busy. That’s why the food is always fresh Save some space for sweet dessert in the end

  • I actually got lost looking for a Vietnamese restaurant and ended up here. I realized it was dim sum restaurant so I used the provided check list to order what I wanted and it came out within 10 minutes hot and fresh. The server spoke a little fast, but she was nice as she gave me water and tea immediately. The chicken feet were super tender and flavorful while the honeycomb tripe had a slight chew but melted eventually. It was such a filling meal and I would definitely come back.
